The Filter before the Filter - A Solids capture and removal is one of the most important functions of any filtration system. If particulates from your pond can be trapped before reaching the biological filter, the efficacy of filtration can improve up to 400%. With the Ultimate System this function is achieved by using the Turbo Vortex Pre-filter which can be backwashed to remove the suspended solids while maintaining a totally aerobic environment.
The Heart of the System - B Keeping the filter operating properly, running the pre-filter, and backwashing each of these units is the primary job of the pump. The size of your pond, and what size filter you choose, will determine what size pump you will need. Every pump comes standard with a high and low speed. By exposing the free floating algae spores to high levels of UV radiation, an Ultraviolet light will cause algae to flocculate or stick together and ultimately the spores become dense enough to be removed by a standard filter system. Conventional up flow bead filters are functionally sub-optimal in a number of important respects. Conventional bead filters rely on gravity to facilitate the backwashing of media. They also work on a minimal flow basis due to pressure regulations of the housing and lack of media to support high flow levels. The Challenger line of filters offers answers to these short-falls of conventional bead filters.
